‘There is still hope.’ Chiefs’ Cheer Alumni stays positive amid stage 4 cancer diagnosis

  • October 27, 2025

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – One former Chiefs’ Cheerleader is staying positive despite her battle with cancer.

Sabrina Dotson cheered for the Kansas City Chiefs from 2013 to 2015.

“It was a dream come true,” said Dotson.

In November of 2024, she was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer.

“By the time we found that I had breast cancer, it had already spread to my liver and my bones,” said Dotson.

Doston has an incredible support system between her family, friends and Chiefs’ Cheerleading sisters. Her husband and two young children have helped her throughout the past year’s challenges.

“It would be really difficult to go on this journey without them,” said Dotson.

On October 19, Sabrina was recognized as a Crucial Catch honoree at Arrowhead Stadium.

“It was such an indescribable moment being on the field for their field rehearsal, but then also for the crucial catch, the actual game,” said Dotson.

Dotson spoke on what it was like to experience Arrowhead through a new lens.

“I was really honored to just be there, as a former Chief Cheerleader, but then also as Sabrina Dotson, a current cancer thriver,” said Dotson.

Dotson has a powerful message for the Kansas City community.

“If you are someone who is diagnosed stage 4 like me, there is still hope,” said Dotson. “There’s still research to be done.”
