NFL Week 8 picks include Chiefs and Colts
Lorenzo Reyes is back after going 3-0 last week, and explains why large spreads shouldn’t worry bettors in Week 8 of the NFL season.
We’re nearly to the halfway point of the 2025 NFL season. Some teams have surprised – in both good ways and bad – but a few have played up to expectations entering the year.
The Detroit Lions are certainly one of those teams.
Detroit lost both offensive and defensive coordinators from last season but are one of the top rosters in the NFL. Stars on both sides of the ball have powered the team to the top tier of the NFC’s hierarchy.
The Lions bounced back from a loss to the Packers in Week 1 to rattle off four straight wins over the Bears (52-21), Ravens (38-30), Browns (34-10) and Bengals (37-24).
A “Sunday Night Football” loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 6 ended the streak but Detroit handled business at home in prime time a week later with a win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on “Monday Night Football.”
As a whole, the Lions have one of the top offenses in the NFL once again. Detroit ranks third in points per game powered by the league’s fifth-best rushing attack. The defense has weathered injuries in the secondary and rank 12th in points allowed as well as eighth-best in yards.
Here’s what’s next for the Lions in Week 8.
Are the Lions playing today?
After back-to-back prime time matchups, the Lions get a break this week with their bye. Detroit is one of a season-high six teams taking a bye during Week 8.
The Lions get right back to it once they’re back from their break. They face three playoff teams from last season in as many weeks:
This could be a critical stretch for the Lions in a tough NFC. Of the nine teams league-wide with five wins, six reside in their conference. Those three matchups could play a big role when it comes time for playoff seeding.
