The sum of the average salary made by players on reserve lists for the 49ers now has eclipsed $96 million, the most in the NFL, according to Over the Cap. The Miami Dolphins have the second-highest sum at nearly $72 million.

Star players like Nick Bosa, Fred Warner and Brandon Aiyuk account for a large percentage of this sum. Bosa and Warner, both dealing with season-ending injuries, have average salaries of $34 million and $21 million, respectively, according to Spotrac. Aiyuk, who remains on the physically unable to perform list, makes an average of $30 million per year, according to Spotrac.

The total has the potential to decrease ahead of Week 9 of the 2025 NFL season if the 49ers are able to open the practice window for Aiyuk, who continues to progress in his return from a knee injury that ended his 2024 season.

The sum from Over the Cap does not include quarterback Brock Purdy since he has not been placed on a reserve list. Purdy, who has missed six games this season, makes an average salary of $53 million per year after his lucrative offseason extension.

San Francisco dropped to 5-3 Sunday after their 26-15 defeat at the Houston Texans, looking to once again overcome injuries as they travel to face the New York Giants in Week 9.
