New information has emerged from the Pittsburgh Steelers’ trade for New England Patriots S Kyle Dugger — contract details that all but declare the Steel City brand of football as clear winners in the acquisition.
Following the trade on Tuesday, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that the Patriots are set to pay most of Dugger’s remaining base salary of $9.75 million, which equates to around $5.4 million — including $1 million in roster bonuses — to facilitate the trade with Pittsburgh. Additionally, Dugger’s final two years on his four-year, $58 million contract have been cleared off, making him a free agent in 2026.
Dugger had just signed the four-year extension with New England in April 2024, but the new Patriots’ Mike Vrabel regime this season left him expendable — at least schematically.
