Four-time Pro Bowler Roddy White starred at UAB before going on to have an excellent career in the NFL with the Atlanta Falcons.
With the UAB head coaching job now open, White threw his hat into the ring recently and shared that he would like to lead the Blazers program.
“I want the job,” Roddy White posted on X earlier this month.
The UAB job is now open after Trent Dilfer, another former NFL player, was fired on Oct. 12.
The coaching change came after UAB got off to a 2-4 start to the 2025 season, including losing 53-33 to Florida Atlantic on Oct. 11.
Alex Mortensen is the interim head coach for the Blazers and led his team to a 31-24 upset victory over Memphis on Oct. 18. The Blazers then had a bye week and will return to action Saturday at UConn.
Roddy White caught 163 passes for 3,112 yards across his four seasons at UAB. His best year came as a senior in 2004 when he caught 71 passes for 1,452 yards and 17 touchdowns.
From there, White was drafted by the Falcons in the first round of the 2005 NFL Draft.
He went on to spend all 11 of his seasons in the NFL with the Falcons and earned Pro Bowl honors from 2008-11.
White earned first-team All-Pro honors in 2010 when he led the NFL in receptions with 115 catches for 1,389 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Roddy White does not have any college coaching experience but he has worked as a high school football coach.
