The Washington Commanders returned to practice on Wednesday in preparation for a Week 9 matchup with the Seattle Seahawks. Dan Quinn delivered some bad news, ruling out wide receiver Terry McLaurin for Week 9. McLaurin reaggravated the quad injury that cost him four games in Monday’s loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
However, there was good news. Quarterback Jayden Daniels returned to practice and participated fully, and that’s the plan for the entire week.

“The plan is for him to practice full all week,” Quinn said on Wednesday. “And so today it’ll be slow-moving, but he’ll stay after, do extra routes, receivers, tight ends, and back. So, it’ll be a little bit adjusted for him based on his readiness going in, and also, you know, not playing from Monday. But the plan is for him [to be] full all week.”
It feels like a lost season for McLaurin, who had missed only three games in the first six seasons of his NFL career. McLaurin will miss his fifth game of the season on Sunday against the Seahawks. McLaurin caught three passes for 54 yards and a touchdown in his return. He apparently tweaked the injury when he made the catch on the sideline that was initially ruled incomplete. It was a phenomenal diving effort from McLaurin.
“I believe it was on the sideline, challenged catch, but I can’t say that for sure,” Quinn said when questioned about when the injury occurred.
McLaurin did not return to the game. He was seen on the sideline speaking with trainers at one point, but appeared fine as he left the field after the game. McLaurin was clearly frustrated when he talked to the media after the game.

“Yeah, it’s alright, I’m just trying to take it day by day, just monitoring it, it’s a little sore and everything,” McLaurin said.
McLaurin was then asked if he tweaked the injury.
“I don’t know yet, really. So, I’m just going to continue to take it day by day and see how it feels in the morning. It’s hard to say what it is and what it isn’t, you know what I mean. I feel pretty good, but we’ll see how the week progresses.”
That begs the question: Will the Commanders make a move at wide receiver? Quinn answered that question.
“No, we’re comfortable where we’re at,” he said. “Like we said, this is not something that’s going to be a thing that’s going to knock him out for a long time, we hope. So no, we’re very comfortable with where we’re at.”

Washington did re-sign veteran Robbie Chosen to the practice squad after releasing kicker Matthew Wright. Wright was signed to the practice squad on Monday and elevated to the main roster for the Chiefs’ game due to Matt Gay’s injury. Chosen was active for Washington two weeks ago, leading the team with four receptions. In addition to Chosen, the Commanders also have rookies Ja’Corey Brooks and Jacoby Jones and former Tennessee first-round pick Treylon Burks on the practice squad.
As far as the receivers on Washington’s active roster, Deebo Samuel, Luke McCaffrey, rookie Jaylin Lane and Chris Moore will likely see the bulk of work. Samuel returned last week after missing Week 7 with a nagging heel injury.
The NFL trade deadline is a little over a week away, and it’s doubtful the Commanders make a move for a wide receiver, considering they’re already without second and fourth-round picks in the 2026 NFL draft. Washington hopes McLaurin’s injury is short-term and that he will not be out as long this time around.
