One year ago, Washington Commanders general manager Adam Peters traded multiple draft picks to the New Orleans Saints for four-time Pro Bowl cornerback Marshon Lattimore. The hope was that by trading for Lattimore, it would help fix some of the previous regime’s cornerback mistakes. After all, Lattimore wasn’t just a move to help the Commanders out in their 2024 playoff run, but he was also under contract for two more seasons.

When Washington acquired Lattimore, Peters knew he was dealing with a hamstring injury. That injury plagued Lattimore throughout his time with the Commanders last season, but Peters was confident things would be different once he had a full offseason with Washington, where he was fully healthy.

Here we are, eight games into the 2025 season, and Lattimore still doesn’t resemble his former Pro Bowl self. While he’s had solid performances this season, he’s also been targeted heavily at times. He is coming off his best performance since arriving in the burgundy and gold, according to head coach Dan Quinn. Lattimore intercepted Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes in a Week 8 loss at Kansas City.

“I thought it was one of his (Lattimore’s) strongest games,” Quinn said on Wednesday.

We are less than one week away from the 2025 NFL trade deadline. Is it possible that Lattimore could be dealt again?

In a trade deadline preview for ESPN, Ben Solak hints that Lattimore could be a potential target for the Chicago Bears. Why the Bears? Dennis Allen is Chicago’s defensive coordinator. Allen was Lattimore’s defensive coordinator from 2017-21, and his head coach from 2022 until he was traded last season. No coach knows Lattimore better than Allen.

Commanders cornerback Marshon Lattimore. This would be back-to-back trade deadline relocations for Lattimore, who picked off Patrick Mahomes on Monday but has struggled since Washington acquired him. He would return to Dennis Allen’s defense, where the absence of Jaylon Johnson leaves the outside cornerback position unsettled for the Bears. Lattimore isn’t the player he once was but probably would still beat out Tyrique Stevenson for snaps.

This seems unlikely for many reasons. While Allen may want to reunite with Lattimore, the Bears wouldn’t really trade for him. Would they? Well, it is Ryan Poles, who reportedly laughed at the notion of even considering Jayden Daniels or Drake Maye with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft.

Washington is 3-5, but does not believe its season is over, despite numerous injuries on both sides of the ball. The Commanders could be encouraged by Lattimore’s performance last week and want to give him the rest of the season.

Still, if the Bears called and you have a chance to add a late-round pick and shed some salary, it’s something you would have to consider. Washington has used second-round picks in back-to-back years on cornerbacks Mike Sainristil and Trey Amos, and still has more work to do there.

Two years ago, the Commanders were sellers at the trade deadline. Last year, they were buyers. What happens next week?
