Where the Titans stand

The Titans are the worst team in the NFL, currently with a 1-7 record.

Former Chargers head coach is in charge of the team

After a 1–5 start to the season, the Titans fired head coach Brian Callahan. The franchise appointed Mike McCoy as the interim replacement. He is 0-2 in that role so far, with losses coming to the Patriots and Colts. McCoy served as the Chargers’ head coach from 2013 to 2016, leading them to a playoff berth in his first season.

Growing pains

The No. 1 overall pick, quarterback Cam Ward’s rookie season hasn’t been all sunshine and rainbows. While he has shown flashes, Ward has been hurt by a lack of offensive consistency, poor offensive line play, and a rotating cast of wide receivers. In eight games, Ward has completed just 57.7% of his passes for 1,615 yards, five touchdowns and six interceptions. He has been sacked an NFL-leading 34 times

Bright spot on offense

Despite ranking near the bottom in various offensive categories, rookie wide receiver Chimere Dike has been a bright spot. Dike set new career highs in Week 8 with 7 catches for 93 yards against Indianapolis. Along with developing a rapport with Ward, Dike has been a key special teams contributor, leading the league in kickoff return yards and total kick returns.

Dud of a defense

The Titans’ defense is nothing to write home about, either. Injuries have plagued the unit and it has experienced roster turnover. They are allowing 28.8 points per game (29th), 358.4 yards per game (26th) and 142.6 rushing yards (28th). The defense has also struggled to defend deep passes, allowing the eighth-worst Expected Points Added (EPA) per pass on throws of 20-plus air yards.
