Rutgers travels to Gies Memorial Stadium on Saturday, aiming to seal successive road wins over Illinois for the first time in the program’s history. The Fighting Illini won’t be willing hosts in that regard, however, as they look to recover following back-to-back defeats against Ohio State and Washington.
Neither team is going to cause too much of a ruckus in the Big Ten at this stage of the season, though Illinois can still finish the season with 10 wins (with a preferable Bowl game thrown in). Three of its remaining four games in the regular season fall at home, not that that fact bothered Rutgers too much in its last visit back in 2021.
Senior quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis was one of those front and center for last year’s agonizing defeat at home to Illinois. A last-second 40-yard throw to Pat Bryant sealed a 38-31 win that will be etched on the minds of many in the Scarlet Knights’ squad, providing plenty of fuel to the fire needed to right those wrongs this weekend.
