Iowa State tight end Benjamin Brahmer is alert and on his way to Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa, according to TNT’s Bridget Howard. Brahmer was carted off midway through the fourth quarter Saturday against Arizona State.

The 6-foot-7, 255-pound junior collapsed while walking off a big hit he sustained from Sun Devils cornerback Keith Abney II.

Brahmer, who reeled in a 17-yard touchdown reception late in the first half, was looking in a pass from Cyclones quarterback Rocco Becht when he was drilled by Abney at the catch point. Abney broke up the pass and instantly jumped up amped about the play he made on the ball.

Brahmer, meanwhile, remained on the ground. He doubled over with his head to the turf before rising to one knee. He then got to his feet and hobbled alongside a pair of Iowa State trainers before collapsing and then shaking.

While Brahmer received medical attention, players on both sides kneeled down in support.

Eventually, Brahmer was carted off the field. He gave a thumbs up with his right hand on his way out.

“They said Benjamin Brahmer is alert,” Howard reported on the TNT broadcast after speaking with a member of the Iowa State staff. “It’s more of a precautionary measure. They will be taking him to Mary Greeley Hospital here in Ames.”
