Until Friday, Miami Dolphins stud WR Jaylen Waddle was off-limits. But with GM Chris Grier fired, the Dolphins’ plans may change along with it. Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Dolphins are now willing to listen to offers for Waddle ahead of Tuesday’s deadline.

“Sources say the Dolphins would at least consider dealing Waddle,” Rapoport wrote in a Saturday article. “It would be expensive, as young stars in their prime are, but not off the table. Something would have to blow the doors off for them to deal him. But, at least, GMs aren’t being pushed to voicemail, metaphorically. With a dearth of pass-catchers available at the deadline, Waddle becomes the hottest commodity.”

Miam’s general manager for nearly the last decade, Grier was fired following a 2-7 Miami start. Head coach Mike McDaniel held onto his job and is expected to remain in the role for the rest of the regular season, though his status beyond 2025 is in serious doubt. Champ Kelly took over as the team’s new general manager and evidently has different plans than Grier.

Of course, ownership has a big say in the moves Miami does and doesn’t make, especially regarding a young player like Waddle. Trading him would leave the Dolphins uncertain at wide receiver going into 2026. Tyreek Hill’s future has been jeopardized by a serious leg injury and the team has few other pass-game pieces to build around.

As Rapoport notes, Waddle won’t come cheap. But if a team like the Pittsburgh Steelers are looking to swing big for a piece who can help for longer than the rest of this season, the Dolphins might be the place to look.

The sixth overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft, Waddle has produced plenty of big plays throughout his career. In 2022, he led the league in yards per catch and in 71 career games, he’s amassed 350 catches for 4,715 yards and 24 touchdowns. In 2025, he leads the team with 41 receptions for 586 yards and four touchdowns.

Pittsburgh’s been connected to Las Vegas Raiders WR Jakobi Meyers, Tennessee Titans WR Calvin Ridley, and the New Orleans Saints’ Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed. The trade deadline is Tuesday at 4 PM/EST.
