We’re at the halfway point of the 2025 NFL season, and the future of the New York Jets seems relatively secure in one sense: They won’t be making a playoff push this year.

At 1-7 entering their bye week, the Jets are in the running for the No. 1 overall pick in next year’s draft, and a potential shot at one of the top quarterbacks in the class. From Fernando Mendoza to Ty Simpson, landing the top pick could completely reshape the future in Florham Park.

For that to happen, though, the Jets will need some help. Here’s a look at who Gang Green fans should be rooting for in Week 9. Whether you want the Jets to tank for the top selection or not, wins by these teams would help New York’s future.

Tennessee Titans (1-7) over Los Angeles Chargers

If the season ended today, the Titans would be tied with the Jets and Saints for the worst record in football. Thanks to the strength-of-schedule tiebreaker, New York would currently hold the second pick. Tennessee falls in third, while New Orleans would take the top selection.

This could be one of the Titans’ best chances at a win for a while. The Chargers are traveling across the country with a banged-up squad.

New York Giants (2-6) over San Francisco 49ers

The Giants won’t be drafting a quarterback even if they finish higher than the Jets. Jaxson Dart looks like the future for Big Blue, and their focus will be on building around him.

Still, the fewer teams ahead of the Jets in the draft order, the better. A Giants upset over the 49ers would give the Jets a boost in their quest for the top pick.

Las Vegas Raiders (2-5) over Jacksonville Jaguars

It’s been a rough season in Las Vegas. Even with Pete Carroll at the helm, the Raiders have struggled to find direction. They could be in the quarterback market come draft time.

For the Jets, any Raiders win is a positive. With two victories and one of the league’s strongest schedules, another win would push them far away from contention for the top pick.

New Orleans Saints (1-7) over Los Angeles Rams

As bad as things have been in New York, the Saints might have it worse. They’re short on cap space, lack talent, and still don’t have a long-term quarterback solution.

With Kellen Moore in his first year and plenty of roster turnover ahead, New Orleans could easily find itself chasing a quarterback with the top draft pick. That’s why any Saints win, even one as unlikely as this week’s trip to Los Angeles, would help the Jets in the long run.

New York and New Orleans currently have an identical strength of schedule (.492). With a Week 16 meeting scheduled at the Superdome, these two teams could be on a collision course for a pivotal game in the race for the No. 1 pick.

Arizona Cardinals (2-5) over Dallas Cowboys

While neither Dallas nor Arizona is firmly in the playoff race right now, the Cowboys’ three wins make them a lesser threat in the draft order. The Cardinals remain very much in contention for a high pick.

Every result counts in the race for the top of the draft.
