The Houston Texans return to NRG Stadium for a chance to secure a 4-4 start to the season with a win over the Denver Broncos. This would give general manager Nick Caserio motivation to make moves, thus turning the team back into a contender with trades at the deadline come Tuesday afternoon.
The Texans are coming off perhaps their most impressive win at home following a 26-15 trouncing of the San Francisco 49ers. C.J. Stroud threw for over 300 yards for the first time since Week 6 of the 2024 season, while the defense bottled up Christian McCaffery for most of the afternoon.
Meanwhile, the Broncos’ slow start against the Dallas Cowboys proved to be just another blip on the radar. Rookie running back R.J. Harvey scored three times while third-round pick wide receiver Pat Bryant caught his first NFL touchdown pass. Former first-round pick Bo Nix completed over 70 percent of his passes and found the end zone four times.
“What he does is a really good job of, and the coaches have put him in a really good position to get on the edge. He’s using his athleticism a lot to get on the edge on a lot of their keeper plays,” Texans coach DeMeco Ryans said earlier this week.” If it’s not there, he doesn’t like it; he has the athletic ability to escape the pocket, up the middle through the A and B gaps. We have to be very sound in how we’re rushing him, especially our defensive tackles. We have to rush with awareness because he’s a very athletic kid who’s made a few explosive plays when he’s able to not just escape the pocket running, but he’s also made some nice throws as well, escaping the pocket.”
With a win, the Texans would re-enter the conversation for a playoff push for the final eight weeks. None of that matters, though, if the Texans can’t get off on the right note early Sunday afternoon as the franchise honors co-founder and senior chair Janice McNair into the Texans’ Ring of Honor.
