The Atlanta Falcons have plenty to figure out after Sunday’s 24-23 loss to the New England Patriots. The game came down to a few key moments, and despite overcoming a 14-point deficit, the Falcons failed to make enough plays to close it out.

Make no mistake, though, Atlanta had its chances. After Michael Penix Jr. connected with Drake London on the duo’s third touchdown of the game, kicker Parker Romo missed the extra point that would have tied the game at 24. While the Falcons still had a chance to pull off the upset, they were unable to get into field-goal range on their final drive.

Romo, who was released by the Patriots during training camp, missed the chance to tie the game in the fourth quarter against his former team.

“It’s a tough one,” Romo told reporters after Sunday’s loss. “Nobody wanted this win more than I did in this locker. “Obviously that was the team I played for in the preseason. Got to keep my head up. A lot of teammates still have faith in me, came up to me. Got to move on to this next week. Can’t let this one kick affect me. Anytime I go out on the field, I need to make the kick, and that’s all it is.”

Romo replaced veteran Younghoe Koo as the starting kicker in Week 2 and got off to a perfect 5-for-5 start in the team’s win over the Minnesota Vikings. However, he struggled in the Falcons’ Week 3 loss to the Carolina Panthers. For the season, Romo has made 11 out of 14 field goal attempts and converted on 11 of 12 extra point attempts.

The Falcons released Koo after he missed a game-tying field goal attempt in their Week 1 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Romo has been mostly good since taking over, but his miss against the Patriots stings. It’s been that kind of year for Atlanta, though.

Sunday’s loss dropped the Falcons to 3-5 on the season with a game coming up against the 7-2 Indianapolis Colts in Germany next Sunday.
