Second-seeded Rock Creek made quick work of No. 15 Smoky Valley, rolling to a 56–0 shutout in three quarters to open the Class 3A State Playoffs.

The Mustangs scored touchdowns on their first seven possessions behind a crisp effort from sophomore quarterback Tate Smith, who finished with 227 passing yards and five total touchdowns. Jacob Perkins scored three times, including a 77-yard kickoff return and two touchdown receptions. Peter Martinie caught a pair of scores as well, with a 76-yard strike.

Zion Bell added 75 rushing yards and a touchdown, and Rock Creek’s defense limited Smoky Valley to 152 total yards.

The Mustangs (9–0) advance to host No. 7 seed Hesston in Friday’s regional round.

Council Grove

The ninth-seeded Braves delivered a record-breaking 67–0 road win at No. 8 Central Heights, advancing to the Class 2A regional round.

Quarterback Luke Stewart set multiple program records, throwing for 370 yards and six touchdowns while breaking school marks for single-game passing yards, completions, and total offense. Receiver Mason Samuels caught three touchdowns and 177 yards, breaking the school’s single-season and career records for receiving scores.

Blaise French added two touchdowns, including a 55-yard interception return, while the Braves’ defense allowed just 67 total yards and forced four turnovers, highlighted by Sy-ied Smith Jenkins three sacks, which tied a Braves’ single game record.

Council Grove (7–2) will travel to No. 1 seed Nemaha Central on Friday in Seneca.

Wabaunsee

Wabaunsee’s season came to an end with a 34–0 loss to Riverside in the opening round of the Class 1A Playoffs, closing year two under head coach Jim Johnston at 4–5 overall.

Senior standout Cole Frank finished his Charger career as one of the most productive two-way players in school history — amassing 3,389 all-purpose yards, 42 total touchdowns, and 228 career tackles with 19.5 tackles for loss and four interceptions.

Riley County

Riley County ended its season on a high note with a 74–6 non-playoff win over Oskaloosa, piling up 306 rushing yards.

Rielyn Wurtz led the Falcons with 130 yards and two touchdowns, while Kadrick Woodard added 62 yards and two scores as Riley County’s offense clicked from the start.

Blue Valley

Blue Valley closed its season with a back-and-forth 40–34 win over Pike Valley, earning its second victory of the year in a non-playoff matchup.

The Rams finished strong after a difficult schedule that included multiple ranked opponents in 8-Man Division II.
