Week 9 of Monday Night Football features the Arizona Cardinals (2-5) visiting the Dallas Cowboys (3-4-1) in a showdown of two struggling teams attempting to stay afloat in the NFC. The Cardinals come into this game having lost five in a row after starting the season 2-0. Both franchises will be looking to get things back on track entering the second half of the season.
Arizona has been stuck in struggle mode since Week 3, although the Cardinals haven’t lost a game this season by more than four points. Quarterback Kyler Murray will miss another game with a foot injury, with Jacoby Brissett getting his third start this season in his place. Despite going 0-2 in those starts, Brissett has passed for 599 yards, four touchdowns and just one interception.

The Cowboys’ claim to fame this year has been the offense led by veteran quarterback Dak Prescott. Dallas ranks No. 1 in passing and No. 2 in total yards and points, respectively. The defense has been well below-average without star edge rusher Micah Parsons, ranked 31st in total offense allowed, which could be the spark the Cardinals need to get their season back on track.

Dallas was on its way to set up Brandon Aubrey for a field goal. But tight end Jake Ferguson fumbled on the back end of a third-and-17 catch, and the Cardinals recovered.
Dallas’ much-touted offense has exactly zero points with 6:30 remaining in the first half. And the Cardinals have a chance to add on to their 10-0 lead.

Halfway through his second season, this could be the Marvin Harrison Jr. breakout game.
In two Cardinals possessions, Harrison has five catches for 64 yards on seven targets. Jacoby Brissett is making a concerted effort to get him the ball.
Harrison’s fifth catch was good for a 4-yard touchdown to give Arizona a 10-0 lead. A surprising score in Dallas early in the second quarter.
Harrison juked Cowboys cornerback Daron Bland to the turf on his touchdown catch to get wide open in the end zone.

Cardinals linebacker Mack Wilson had a sure interception in his hands after Dak Prescott got hit on a pass and threw a floater up for grabs.
But Wilson let the easy catch slip through his hands. Fortunately for Wilson, that incomplete pass was on third down, and the Cowboys punted.
The Cardinals could have started their possession inside the Dallas 40. But they’ll still start with excellent field position at the Dallas 47 after a 40-yard punt and 4-yard return.

Lot of chatter about that Cardinals field goal that looked to some to be wide right.
It was good. The refs got it right. The ball was headed wide, but it was clear on replay that it passed over the inside of the right upright before veering further to the right.

The Cardinals are on the board first with a field goal for a 3-0 lead late in the first quarter.
They needed 15 plays and 6:54 to drive 60 yards and threw incomplete on fourth-and-5 in the red zone. Jacoby Brissett looked repeatedly to Marvin Harrison Jr., who caught two passes for 33 yards.
It appears that they’re making a concerted effort to get Harrison involved. The talented second-year receiver has so far underwhelmed with his production after joining the league with big expectatios

The Cowboys marched into the red zone in five plays and looked poised for an opening-drive touchdown.
But first-round Cardinals rookie Walter Nolen got into the backfield to tackle Javonte Williams for a 2-yard loss on first-and-goal from the 9. The Cowboys ended up going for it on fourth and failing, and the game’s in a scoreless tie after one possession.
Nolen, a defensive tackle, is making his NFL debut after a calf injury sidelined him through the first eight weeks of the season.

It’s time for kickoff. The Cardinals won the coin toss and deferred. They’ll kick off, and the Cowboys will have the ball first.

Cardinals rookie Walter Nolen has been activated from the PUP list and cleared to make his NFL debut against the Cowboys.
The defensive tackle suffered a calf injury in training camp and was not able to play in Arizona’s first seven games. The Cardinals selected Nolen with the 16th pick of April’s draft out of Mississippi to anchor their interior line.
A capable pass rusher who can create pressure up the middle, Nolen recorded 6.5 sacks, 14 tackles for loss, 3 passes defended and 2 forced fumbles in 13 games for Mississippi last season. He provides the Cardinals with an added dynamic in a tough first-game test for the rookie against an explosive Dallas offense.

Their key need? Edge rusher.
(Who could have predicted that following the trade of star pass rusher Micah Parsons?)
The Yahoo Sports team discusses why Dallas should be in the market ahead of Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline:
Jerry Jones has not been shy about admitting the Cowboys are looking to be buyers at the trade deadline, but it remains to be seen in what capacity. Dallas has an extra first-round pick next spring thanks to the Micah Parsons trade. The Raiders’ Maxx Crosby makes the most sense in terms of elite pass rushing trade targets, given he’s under contract until 2030, but Yahoo Sports Senior NFL Reporter Charles Robinson is hearing a Crosby trade won’t happen unless he asks for it, which he hasn’t done yet. The Bengals’ Trey Hendrickson is another option on the edge, but he’d need a new contract after this season, and you might have heard, that was kind of a big thing in the Parsons debacle. The Titans’ Jeffery Simmons, under contract through 2027, makes more sense in the context of Jones’ stated ambition to improve the run defense.
But more than anything, the Cowboys need to ask themselves if they’re really one player away from even a decent defense to complement their elite offense, especially with wide receiver George Pickens potentially due a big new contract. If the answer’s no, then it makes more sense to exercise caution this trade deadline.

With less than 90 minutes remaining until the Arizona Cardinals and Dallas Cowboys kick off on “Monday Night Football,” each team has announced its Week 9 inactives for game day.
Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray, as expected, is among them. Murray will miss a third straight game with a sprained foot.

Ahead of “Monday Night Football,” the Arizona Cardinals announced several roster moves:
Activated DL Walter Nolen III from the Physically Unable to Perform list (PUP)
Activated CB Garrett Williams from the injured reserve/designated for return list
Elevated RB Michael Carter to the active roster from the practice squad as a standard elevation
With his activation from the PUP list, first-round rookie defensive lineman Walter Nolen III is scheduled to make his debut on Monday night. He was selected 16th overall after an All-American campaign in 2024 with Ole Miss but started the season on the PUP list after suffering a calf injury just ahead of training camp. Nolen finished his final collegiate season with 6.5 sacks and 14 tackles for loss in 13 games.

Ahead of “Monday Night Football,” the Dallas Cowboys announced several roster moves:
Activated C Cooper Beebe from Reserve/Injured-Designated for Return
Paced LB Jack Sanborn on Reserve/Injured (groin)
Signed RB Malik Davis to the active roster from the practice squad
Elevated DB Zion Childress and TE Princeton Fant from the practice squad for Week 9
The biggest news of the night is the plan for center Cooper Beebe to make his first start since Week 2, when he suffered an ankle injury that landed him on injured reserve. The team officially listed Beebe as questionable for the matchup before officially designating him for return on Monday.
Beebe, a third-round pick from last year’s class, has started in each of his games played dating back to his rookie season. 2022 UDFA Brock Hoffman has started the last six games in his place, giving up a single sack but 11 total pressures, per PFF.
