On the Pat McAfee Show, Adam Schefter provided the latest injury update on Jaguars’ rookie Travis Hunter.

We do not yet know the specifics of Travis Hunter’s knee injury or when the Jacksonville Jaguars’ rookie could return, but ESPN’s Adam Schefter told Pat McAfee that it’s going to be “a while” before he is back on the field.

Hunter suffered a non-contact knee injury during last Thursday’s practice. Schefter reported last week that Hunter’s ACL is “inact,” but at that time, additional testing was needed to determine the extent of the injury.

Jacksonville placed him on injured reserve on Friday. At a minimum, Hunter has to miss at least four games, but from the sounds of it, he will be out longer than that.

“First of all, Travis Hunter is somebody that doesn’t miss time. So when he goes down and he’s out for four weeks at minimum, that tells you it’s not great,” Schefter told McAfee on Monday. “And I think it’s going to be, my sense is it’s going to be beyond that.”

However, Schefter did leave the door open for Hunter to still return this season as long as the Jaguars remain in the AFC playoff hunt.

“It’s going to be, as I was told, it’s going to be, quote, unquote, a while before Travis Hunter comes back,” Schefter said. “And Jacksonville has been winning, and as long as they stay alive, I think we could see Travis Hunter again later this season. But I put this a little bit in the Jayden Daniels category you’re going to be careful with this guy.”

Schefter continued, “They’re in the playoff race right now, and they’re doing a great job, but if they’re not, you’re not going to rush this guy back. You’re going to be careful. And so I think it will be a little while before we see Travis Hunter again this season. I don’t know exactly when, but as I was told over the weekend, it’s going to be a while.”

Hunter took on a much more significant role on offense in the Jaguars’ Week 7 game against LA. He would play 67 of the team’s 77 offensive snaps and led the Jaguars in targets, receptions, and receiving yards.

An emphasis for the Jaguars during the bye week, as Liam Coen described, was on finding ways to get their playmakers the ball in space. Presumably, Hunter was going to continue to be a big part of this equation with his ability to make defenders miss and pick up YAC.
