The New England Patriots have the most cap space in the NFL (roughly $51 million, per OverTheCap). They currently own 10 picks in the 2026 NFL Draft. And they’re tied for the NFL’s best record at 7-2 after holding off the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.
So, they have the resources and the motivation to add at the NFL trade deadline. But will they go big, or play it safe?
As Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer recently reported, the Patriots are taking an “intentional approach” to the deadline, preferring to add players with multiple years remaining on their contracts as opposed to high-priced rentals. New England has needs at several positions, however — notably edge rusher and running back — so perhaps Mike Vrabel and Co. will get a bit more aggressive as Tuesday’s deadline nears.
