Atlanta Falcons coach Raheem Morris clarified his comments following Sunday’s loss to the New England Patriots.

Morris claimed that the Patriots simulated the Falcons’ snaps by clapping, which ultimately led to the ball being snapped early and quarterback Michael Penix Jr. committing a costly intentional grounding penalty late in the fourth quarter. Patriots coach Mike Vrabel and defensive tackle Milton Williams both seemed confused by the accusations and stated they didn’t see or hear anything on the field.

On Monday, Morris addressed the topic once again with a much different tone by ultimately putting the blame back on the Falcons for not executing in the moment.

“This was our players telling us that they simulated a snap out there,” Morris told media members. “They heard something, and obviously they did. That’s why they snapped it. Again, there was no intent that those guys did anything wrong. We’re just telling you what happened. I was asked why the ball was snapped early. It was snapped early for our fault. It was on us. …That was just me being angry yesterday. I was just being honest with what the guys told me. …I don’t want to make it a Snapgate.”

The Falcons are on a three-game losing streak and were on the verge of being blown out by the Patriots, if not for a couple of uncharacteristic turnovers that kept them in the game.

Sometimes, the best lessons come from a long look in the mirror.
