The New York Giants (2-7) will visit the Chicago Bears (5-3) at Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois, on Sunday afternoon in a Week 10 battle.
That, of course, provides those of us here at Giants Wire the opportunity to hypothetically steal from the Bears’ roster in search of depth and/or talent upgrades for Big Blue.
The Bears feature a top-heavy roster with impressive talent that falls off as you scour their depth chart. However, many of their prime players come at positions of great need for the Giants.
Consideration was given to several notable players, including running backs D’Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai, wide receivers Rome Odunze and D.J. Moore, center Drew Dalman, guard Joe Thuney, cornerbacks Jaylon Johnson and Tyrique Stevenson, and defensive tackle Gervon Dexter Sr.
Any of those players would help the Giants, but the debate whittled down to two defenders: Safety Kevin Byard and linebacker Tremaine Edmunds.
Ultimately, Giants Wire settled for Edmunds, who is in the midst of a career season at the age of 27. He has posted above-average grades in every metric and would be an ideal inside linebacker to pair with Bobby Okereke in the absence of Micah McFadden.
Through eight games this year, Edmunds has recorded a team-leading 73 tackles (37 solo, two for a loss), one QB hit, one sack, six passes defensed, and a league-leading four interceptions (tied with Byard and Devin Lloyd).
With a run defense grade of 82.0, Edmunds is among the NFL’s best at linebacker, and it would top anyone on the Giants’ defense (Kayvon Thibodeaux, 80.1). His tackling grade (73.2) would also be among the top-3 for the Giants.
What do you say, Giants fans? Would you steal Edmunds from the Bears, or would you go in an entirely different direction?
