In the final minutes of the Chicago Bears‘ wild and chaotic 47-42 win over the Cincinnati Bengals last Sunday, linebacker Tremaine Edmunds got a momentum swinging interception of quarterback Joe Flacco. But the team still needed more to win, which included Colston Loveland’s game-winning 58-yard touchdown.

Coming into the game, the Bears were listed as the favorites to win, mainly due to the fact that the Bengals have a vulnerable defense and Flacco has played quarterback in place of injured superstar Joe Burrow. But Flacco lit the defense up for 470 passing yards, four touchdowns and 42 points.

Earlier this week, Edmunds spoke about getting the win over the Bengals, acknowledging that there is still plenty of room for improvement. The veteran linebacker added that he doesn’t apologize for any win the team gets, and he wants the team to close the game out better.

“Once we’re up, I think the key message is to find ways to close a game out better,” Edmunds said, via Marquee Sports Network. “When we have teams where we want them at, we have to not let our hands off the rope, we’ve got to pull tighter and just figure out the way to close the game in the way we want to close it. I never apologize for winning, at the end of the day, that’s what it’s all about, winning. There’s definitely learning points as we get later on in the season, you want to make sure you don’t let games slip away from you as far as the last couple minutes of the game. it’s all about playing complementary football. It’s about having chances to end the game on whatever side it is.”

Since signing with Chicago in 2023, Edmunds has become not only one of the most consistent and reliable players for the Bears defense, but a leader both on the field and in the locker room. His play has elevated to another big level under new defensive coordinator Dennis Allen, moving from inside to outside linebacker, and his experience in the NFL is going to help the Bears down the stretch of this season.
