Entering the Week 10 Sunday Night Football matchup at SoFi Stadium between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Los Angeles Chargers, both teams enter pretty banged up across the board. The injury reports this week are quite lengthy, as the bumps and bruises are starting to set in, and attrition is occurring across the roster.
The Steelers are down a few key starters, while others are banged up early in the week. There’s also some sort of illness percolating in the locker room, which caused a pair of veterans to miss Week 9 against the Indianapolis Colts.
The Chargers might be even worse off than the Steelers. Los Angeles lost star offensive tackle Joe Alt for the season last week due to another high-ankle sprain, which caused him to have surgery. They’re also dealing with significant injuries at running back, and the defense is starting to feel some of the effects of the mid-season struggles, with some key guys in the secondary banged up.
The Chargers released the Wednesday injury report just moments ago on X.

After missing last week against the Tennessee Titans, veteran safety Tony Jefferson appears to be on track to return to the lineup this week against the Steelers. With the Chargers dealing with injuries in the secondary, getting the veteran presence back with his physical style of play could be a significant boost for Los Angeles.
Jefferson has played 259 snaps this season for the Chargers, primarily in the free safety role, keeping things in check and allowing Derwin James to play more near the line of scrimmage.
Along with Jefferson getting back to practice, the Chargers are opening the 21-day window for defensive lineman Da’Shawn Hand, who has been on the Reserve/Injured list with a groin injury since the Week 5 matchup against the Washington Commanders. Before the injury, Hand had played 159 snaps and generated one sack and eight pressures for the Chargers.
Los Angeles is dealing with some injuries along the offensive line early in the week, too. Left tackle Joe Alt is expected to go on Injured Reserve this week, ending his season. Along with Alt, Bobby Hart and Mekhi Becton are banged up and dealing with ailments early in the week, though Steelers fans should hope Hart plays Sunday.
That doesn’t bode well for the Chargers with the Steelers’ strong defensive front coming to town, even with the Chargers swinging a trade Tuesday with the New Orleans Saints for offensive lineman Trevor Penning.
