It turns out Harrison Mevis wasn’t the only kicker the Los Angeles Rams brought in for a tryout on Wednesday. Though they signed the former Missouri and UFL standout, they also tried out former Colts kicker Rodrigo Blankenship.

That was revealed on the NFL transaction wire Wednesday, so it appears Mevis beat out Blankenship for a spot on the Rams’ practice squad. Now, Mevis will battle Joshua Karty to be the team’s kicker on Sunday against the 49ers.

Blankenship hasn’t kicked in a regular-season game since 2022 when he was with the Cardinals. He spent the first two-plus years of his career with the Colts and has made 47 of his 56 field goal attempts since coming into the NFL in 2020 as an undrafted rookie.

Mevis doesn’t have the NFL experience that Blankenship does, but the Rams seem to like his power and upside as a kicker; Mevis holds the SEC record for the longest field goal of 61 yards.
