The Arizona Cardinals placed quarterback Kyler Murray on injured reserve Wednesday, meaning he’ll miss at least four more games with a sprained foot that’s sidelined him since Week 5.
The Cardinals made the move a day after head coach Jonathan Gannon announced that backup Jacoby Brissett would continue to play as Arizona’s starting quarterback. Brissett has started Arizona’s three previous games in Murray’s absence and led the Cardinals to a 27-17 win over the Dallas Cowboys Monday night.
‘Best thing for him and us’
Gannon announced the transaction, telling reporters that Murray’s move to injured reserve is “the best thing for him and us.”

Gannon said he hopes Murray can return this season.
“I hope so. I mean, I really do,” Gannon said. “We’ve got a lot of ball to play. Like I said, one day at a time. Where he sits right now is he’s got to pour into his health bucket and get ready and get healthy.”
Murray did not speak with media when the decision was announced.
Brissett is now slated to continue to start for the next four games at a minimum, starting with Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks.
Murray suffered his foot sprain in a Week 5 win over the Tennessee Titans. He finished the game with the injury, but has been sidelined since.

The Cardinals did not place him on injured reserve as he remained sidelined for the next three games. They ultimately determined he would need at least eight weeks, including a bye week, to recover from his injury.

Arizona started 2-3 with Murray completing 68.3% of his passes for 192.4 yards per game with six touchdowns and three interceptions. He added 29 carries for 173 yards (six yards per carry) and one touchdown on the ground.
The Cardinals are 1-2 in games Brissett has started. A 10th-year veteran with substantial NFL starting experience, Brissett has completed 65.2% of his passes for 286.7 yards per game with six touchdowns and one interception.

Second-year wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr., who’s largely disappointed since joining the Cardinals as a first-round pick, had one of his best games as a pro Monday while catching passes from Brissett with seven catches on 10 targets for 96 yards and a touchdown.
Murray, a former No. 1 draft pick, is playing on the second year of a five-year, $230 million contract extension.
