The Seattle Seahawks have proven to be one of the NFL’s best squads through the first half of the season.
The 6-2 Seahawks are the league’s only team that ranks in the top five in scoring offense and scoring defense, and they’re tied for the best record in the NFC with the Los Angeles Rams, Philadelphia Eagles and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Do the Seattle Seahawks have the best passing offense in football?
Seattle is starting to get some national attention for its start, especially after a 38-14 drubbing of the Washington Commanders on Sunday Night Football last week. NFL.com’s Eric Edholm even had the Seahawks as the No. 1 team in all of football in his latest power rankings.
More national attention could result in more games on the national stage via the NFL’s flex scheduling.
Flex scheduling allows the league to move matchups into a primetime slot on Sunday Night Football, Monday Night Football or Thursday Night Football in an effort to showcase the most exciting games.
Per the league’s flex scheduling rules, games moved to Sunday Night Football in Weeks 5-13 and Monday Night Football in Weeks 12-17 must be decided on no later than 12 days in advance of the game. Games moved to Sunday Night Football for Weeks 14-17 are generally decided on no later than six days prior to the game. And games flexed to Thursday Night Football in Weeks 14-16 are generally decided on no later than 21 days before the game.
Seattle appears to have a few matchups that could get that could get flexed down the stretch. Here’s a look at those games.
Week 15 – Indianapolis Colts at Seattle Seahawks
Will the Seahawks’ matchup with the Colts be a Super Bowl preview? As wild as that question may have sounded a few months ago, it’s now one worth asking as both are tied for the best record in their respective conferences through the first half of the year.
Week 15 has some potential duds slated in primetime with the 3-5 Falcons at the 6-2 Buccaneers on Thursday, the 4-4 Vikings at the 3-5-1 Cowboys on Sunday, and the 2-7 Dolphins at the 5-3 Steelers on Monday.
Seattle wouldn’t be a candidate to move to Monday since it has a Thursday night game in Week 16, but a push back to the Sunday night window seems like a real possibility. There will be plenty of competition for a potential flex into primetime, though, with the 6-3 Chargers at the 5-4 Chiefs, and 6-2 Bills at the 7-2 Patriots each having the added factor of being important divisional clashes. The 5-3 Lions at the 6-2 Rams is another strong candidate.
Week 17 – Seattle Seahawks at Carolina Panthers
Seattle’s road trip to Carolina is another game that didn’t look like a potential big-time matchup coming into the year, but the surprising 5-4 Panthers, who have won four of their past five, could make this a game with playoff implications for both teams if they can continue their turnaround.
This is one of five games that have yet to have a game time announced in Week 17 and the only of those that features two teams who currently have winning records. The league will pick two of the five games to be played on Saturday, but it hasn’t specified if one of those games will be in primetime.
The Seahawks-Panthers game could also be a candidate for a flex to Monday Night Football in place of a matchup between the Rams and Falcons.
Week 18 – Seattle Seahawks at San Francisco 49ers
The schedule for the final week of the season is completely clear with one primetime slot available on Saturday and Sunday. Seattle’s NFC West clash with the rival 49ers, who are 6-3, is one of many divisional showdowns that should be up for consideration.
The other top candidates in Week 18 are the Lions at the 5-3 Bears, the Chargers at the 7-2 Broncos and the Panthers at the Buccaneers.
