The Chargers are back in primetime and it’ll be Aaron Rodgers on the opposing sideline.
The Bolts will face the Steelers on Sunday Night Football in Week 10 at SoFi Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:20 p.m. (PT).
Here are three players to watch on Sunday:
1. OLB Tuli Tuipulotu
It’s been a big season for Tuipulotu so far.
The third-year player has stepped up big time and been a force, notching another sack in Tennessee and bringing his season total to a team-leading 7.0, good for sixth-most in the league entering Week 10.
He’s been putting pressure on opposing quarterbacks all throughout as well, as his 45 pressures ranking third in the NFL among all edge rushers. Tuipulotu also ranks 17th among all edge rushers in the league in ESPN’s pass rush win rate with a 17 percent.
Coming off of a game where the Steelers allowed three sacks and four quarterback hits, he will be key to slowing down Rodgers and the Pittsburgh offense.
Rodgers has been getting the ball out quick, averaging an average depth of target of 6.2 yards, which is the lowest this year among quarterbacks with at least 100 dropbacks, and a time to throw of 2.57 seconds, which is the second-lowest mark across the league.
But on dropbacks when he has been sacked, Rodgers has been holding onto the ball over a second longer with an average time to throw of 3.61.
It will take complimentary football from the front and backend of the Chargers defense, but Tuipulotu and the unit knows the challenges he brings.
“I know everyone jokes around about his age, but man, it’s not a joke how he can still make the throws that he’s making,” Tuipulotu said about Rodgers. “Just respect for him. It’s kind of crazy this is my first time playing him because I grew up watching him. It’ll be fun.”
