The Washington Commanders will have a special guest at Northwest Stadium in Week 10 as they take on the Detroit Lions.

Pat McAfee broke the news on his Friday show that President Donald Trump will be attending the Commanders-Lions matchup. This will be the first time a sitting U.S. president has gone to an NFL game at the Landover, Md., stadium. Trump reportedly chose this game because of the planned “Salute to Service” celebrations this weekend.

“We are honored to welcome President Trump to the game as we celebrate those who have served and continue to serve our country,” Commanders president Mark Clouse said in a statement. “The entire Commanders organization is proud to participate in the NFL’s league-wide Salute to Service initiative, recognizing the dedication and sacrifice of our nation’s veterans, active-duty service members, and their families this Sunday.”

This will be the first NFL game Trump has attended this season. Trump was in attendance at Super Bowl LIX in February and watched the game from a VIP suite. On Sunday in Landover, Trump will sit in the Commanders’ owners’ suite alongside the team’s managing partner, Josh Harris, according to a league source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the plans.

Perhaps the presence of President Trump will provide a good luck spark for the Commanders. The team has had a rough month, losing four games in a row, and will now be without star quarterback Jayden Daniels. Daniels suffered an arm injury in Week 9 and will miss at least the next two games.

There’s a possibility that Daniels could return sometime after the Week 12 bye, though, so it would be nice if the team could stay afloat until then. At 3-6, it feels like almost every game from here on out is crucial if the Commanders plan on returning to the postseason.
