No team made more headlines at the 2025 NFL trade deadline than the New York Jets.

One of their deals was not without prerequisites.

And other non-deals that did not happen had context as well.

The Jets (1-7) traded two star players in cornerback Sauce Gardner and defensive tackle Quinnen Williams at this year’s deadline.

Gardner’s trade was surprising for all.

As far as Williams, that can’t be said.

The Athletic reported Williams did express that he did want to be traded:

In New York since 2019, Williams evidently wanted out and got his wish.

It’s unclear if wide receiver Garrett Wilson felt the same, but regardless, Wilson was never an option.

When a trade happens, most look at a player’s talent. A coaching staff, such as the one led by head coach Aaron Glenn’s in New York, will look at intangibles more than outsiders would.

That appeared to play a part.

Wilson was not moved at the trade deadline after signing an extension this offseason. It appears the Jets value him in a long-term capacity because SportsNet New York reported that Wilson was a player that Jets told other teams was never available:

“I talked to a team that called on Garrett Wilson. They checked in on Garrett Wilson a week ago, I was told. They were told he is untouchable – we are not trading Garrett Wilson, zero chance Garrett Wilson’s getting traded.
