No. 20 Iowa has a chance to add real weight to its College Football Playoff résumé on Saturday when it hosts No. 9 Oregon at Kinnick Stadium. The Hawkeyes have made a habit of spoiling top-10 visitors in Iowa City, but they’ll need more than defense and field position to hang with one of the nation’s most explosive offenses, which will be down its top receiver Dakorien Moore and potentially starting tight end Kenyon Sadiq.
For Oregon, this is the first of several November opportunities to build substance behind its record. The Ducks don’t own a win against an FBS opponent currently above .500, and a win at Iowa would go a long way toward quieting questions about their CFP credentials. Iowa, meanwhile, is fighting to stay in the Big Ten race and can’t afford another slip with Indiana and Ohio State setting the pace.
Saturday also marks Oregon’s first trip to Kinnick Stadium since 1989 — a fitting stage for both teams to show whether they belong in the playoff conversation.
