The Detroit Lions (5-3) and the Washington Commanders (3-6) meet Sunday in Week 10 at Northwest Stadium in Landover, Maryland. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET (FOX). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NFL odds around the Lions vs. Commanders odds and make our expert NFL picks and predictions for the best bets.
The Lions suffered a surprising 27-24 home loss to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 10, failing to cover as 9.5-point favorites as the Over (47.5) hit. Despite outgaining Minnesota 305-258, Detroit couldn’t close it out late. QB Jared Goff threw for 284 yards and 2 TDs, connecting with TE Sam LaPorta 6 times for 97 yards and a score. RB Jahmyr Gibbs managed just 28 total yards, his lowest mark of the season.
The Commanders’ struggles continued in Week 10 with a 38-14 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, marking their fourth straight defeat. Washington failed to cover as 3-point home underdogs as the Over (47) cashed. The defense was gashed for 418 total yards, and to make matters worse, QB Jayden Daniels injured his elbow late in the fourth quarter of a blowout — a decision coach Dan Quinn later admitted was a mistake.

PASS.
The Lions (-450) will win this game going away which is why I’m going to take my wager to the spread.
BET LIONS -8 (-110).
I’m all over Detroit this week. The Lions are coming off a tough home loss to Minnesota and should respond in a big way against a reeling Commanders team. Washington has dropped 4 straight, allowing 33.7 points per game (PPG) during that stretch, and now they’ll be without Daniels again. QB Marcus Mariota is a capable veteran, but he doesn’t bring the same spark to keep drives alive.
The Lions are one of the most complete teams in the league, ranking second in scoring (29.9 PPG), and their offense matches up perfectly against a Washington defense ranked 29th against the pass and fifth-worst overall. Goff and WR Amon-Ra St. Brown should have a field day against a banged-up secondary, and Detroit’s offensive line getting healthier—with both OT Penei Sewell and OT Taylor Decker expected back—only makes matters worse for the home side.
Meanwhile, Dan Campbell’s group doesn’t stay down for long. The Lions haven’t lost back-to-back games in over 3 years, and they’ve scored 25-plus in nearly every contest over that same span. Expect Detroit to come out fast, establish control early, and keep their foot on the gas.
The betting trends also point their way: Detroit is 5-2 against the spread (ATS) in its last 7 and 6-2 in its last 8 against Washington. The Commanders, on the other hand, are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 and have failed to cover in 5 straight conference games.
The Lions are simply the better, hungrier, and healthier team.
BET OVER 49 (-110).
The Lions are averaging 29.9 points per game and should light up a struggling Washington defense that has allowed more than 30 per game over its last 4. Goff and St. Brown should go ham against this weak secondary, while Washington’s run game can chip in enough scoring to push this one past the total.
