Jacksonville Jaguars bold prediction, breakdown of upcoming Texans game

Florida Times-Union beat reporter Demetrius Harvey breaks down how the Jaguars get a win over the Houston Texans in Week 10.

The Jacksonville Jaguars and Houston Texans both come into today’s AFC South matchup hurting, and not because results have been poor lately.

The Jags (5-3) snapped a two-game slide with a 30-29 overtime win last week in Las Vegas, and they did so with rookie Travis Hunter on injured reserve. Lead receiver Brian Thomas Jr. injured his ankle in the game and will be out today as well, but they will have trade deadline acquisition Jakobi Meyers. Trevor Lawrence hasn’t hit the 300-yard mark in any game this season, and that isn’t expected to change against Will Anderson, Derek Stingley and the NFL’s top-ranked defense.

Houston fell to 3-5 and lost its franchise quarterback last week when C.J. Stroud got a concussion midway through an 18-15 loss to the Denver Broncos. Davis Mills will be under center against the Jaguars in his first start since 2022. He went 17 of 30 for 137 yards and took two sacks in relief of Stroud last week.

Jaguars vs Texans predictions, picks for NFL Week 10Demetrius Harvey, Florida Times-Union

Jaguars 14, Texans 3: “This game has a chance to be ugly. The Texans won’t have quarterback C.J. Stroud, while Jacksonville has been on a teeter-totter stretch as of late.”

Garry Smits, Florida Times-Union

Texans 20, Jaguars 16: “A second road game in a row, a month since the last home game, a beat-up team and facing a backup quarterback, who the Jags usually find a way to make him look like the second coming of Tom Brady. A recipe for a bit of a letdown.”

Bill Bender, Sporting News

Jaguars 23, Texans 18: “Jacksonville won the first meeting 17-10 in Week 3 – and another defensive struggle seems inevitable between these AFC South rivals, whether Stroud plays or not.”

Tom Blair, NFL.com

Texans 22, Jaguars 14: “Because I spent too long thinking about this blurb and how little I trust Trevor Lawrence and Jacksonville’s inconsistent attack to hold up against Houston’s fearsome defense. Lawrence is averaging well under 7 yards per throw for the first time since his rookie season, and I’m not sure if Jakobi Meyers is going to take off right away in his first game with the team, especially with Derek Stingley Jr. roaming around out there.”
