DETROIT – A Detroit Lions player clarified that a Commanders fan who ran onto the field during Sunday’s game had nothing to do with him.
A video circulating on social media Monday showed Lions long snapper Hogan Hatten interacting with someone in the stands behind the team’s sideline on Sunday night.
Some other time during the game, a fan in a Jayden Daniels jersey jumped over the railing and tried to run onto the field. The video shows security tackling him within a few steps, before he even got near the field of play.
He was escorted away from the area along the sideline.
Local 4 reached out to the Lions on Monday, and they said Hatten had an interaction with a young fan that was unrelated to the person who tried to rush the field.
“The video going around suggesting I was arguing with a Commanders fan before he rushed the field is inaccurate,” Hatton posted on Instagram. “I did not speak to that person at all during the game. I struck up a fun conversation with a young fan, who you can’t see sitting in front of him in the first row, and ended up giving him a ball after the game!”
Hatton was signed by the Lions as an undrafted rookie out of the University of Idaho after the 2024 NFL draft. He played in all 17 games last season and has appeared in all nine so far in 2025.
Security was extra tight at Sunday’s game because for the first time since 1978, a sitting United States president attended a regular-season NFL game.
President Donald Trump, who has been involved in the Commanders’ new stadium situation, attended the game ahead of Veterans Day on Tuesday.
It’s unclear if that heightened security played a role in how quickly the fan was tackled, but he certainly picked a tough game to try to storm the field.
The Lions ultimately dominated the game, winning 44-22. It was an emotional night, with Daron Payne getting ejected for punching Amon-Ra St. Brown and the Commanders picking up a slew of unsportsmanlike penalties.
Detroit had revenge top of mind going into Washington, as the Commanders knocked them out of the playoffs last season at Ford Field.
