No. 2 Florida State baseball is set to wrap up the regular season in style this weekend, facing off against the No. 4 North Carolina Tar Heels in Tallahassee:
The series begins with two contests on the ACC Network at 7 p.m. ET, on Thursday, May 15, and Friday, May 16. The regular-season finale is on Saturday, May 17, at 2 p.m. ET. Tickets are available at Seminoles.com/Tickets or by calling the FSU ticket office at 850-644-1830. Admission is free for all FSU students with their FSU I.D. at the Haggard Plaza right field gate.
Thursday is Throwback Thursday, with a retro theme at Howser and throwback gear available for fans to purchase. Friday is Senior Day, and fans are encouraged to arrive early for a pregame ceremony honoring FSU’s senior class that will begin at 6:35 p.m. Saturday is Armed Forces Day, with a color guard and flyover during the national anthem at 1:55 p.m. There will be a hand fan giveaway to early-arriving fans on Friday at the Champions First Credit Union booth in Haggard Plaza, and the first 400 fans at the gates on Saturday will get an Armed Forces Day t-shirt, presented by TOC.
Florida State’s three weekend starting pitchers have remained the same for the entirety of the regular season, with a trio of lefthanders set to take the mound. Junior Jamie Arnold (6-1, 2.21 ERA) gets the ball in the opener against right-handed graduate student Jake Knapp (10-0, 2.03 ERA). On Friday, redshirt junior Joey Volini (8-3, 3.18 ERA) will face sophomore righty Jason DeCaro (7-3, 3.55 ERA). Sophomore Wes Mendes (6-2, 4.81 ERA) will start for FSU on Saturday, with UNC’s starter to be determined.
Florida State is 36-11 overall, 23-5 at home, 12-6 on the road and 1-0 at a neutral site. FSU is 16-8 in the ACC and in first place with a .667 winning percentage. Winners of four of their last five, the Seminoles are coming off a series win at Cal, the team’s 10th series victory of the year and sixth in eight ACC weekends.
In a rematch between two teams that faced off in the College World Series last year, FSU and UNC meet as ranked opponents outside of Omaha for the first time since 2017, when North Carolina was No. 8 and Florida State was No. 12. This year, the Seminoles are 6-4 against top-25 foes, a mark that includes a series win over No. 3 Clemson two weeks ago, the first top-five matchup at Howser in 2025.
The Seminoles are 73-38 all-time against the Tar Heels, including 37-15 at home, 21-21 in Chapel Hill and 15-2 at a neutral site. The series began with a 3-2 win in Tallahassee in 1956. FSU has the longest win streaks in the series, with seven consecutive wins from 1995-97 and again from 1998-2000, with just one loss in between those stretches. From 1995-2001, Florida State took 19 of 21. FSU won two-of-three at home in 2021 before UNC took all three in Chapel Hill in 2022, the last two times the clubs squared off before last season’s meeting in Omaha.
Thursday and Friday’s games will be broadcast live on the ACC Network, and Saturday’s finale is on ACC Network Extra, accessible through your television provider or a subscription to ESPN+. Fans can listen to every game via the Seminole Sports Network on WFLA 100.7 FM and around the world on the FSU Gameday App and Seminoles.com.
