BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – The second week of the 2025 College Football Playoff Rankings looks much like the first.
Ohio State, Indiana and Texas A&M – all undefeated – remain in the top three sports with the Alabama Crimson Tide still the highest ranked one-loss team at No. 4.
After Georgia at No. 5, Texas Tech moved up two spots to fifth ahead of Ole Miss.
College Football Playoff Committee Chairman Mack Rhoades said the committee’s longest discussion this week was between the Red Raiders and Rebels, with the Tech’s win over being really convincing in their eyes.
“Really looked at Texas Tech’s two top-13 wins, BYU, Utah,” Rhoades said. “Ole Miss had the one win – a really good win at Oklahoma. Also a win against LSU. But Texas Tech, highly regarded by the committee.”
BYU fell five spots to No. 12, coming behind the 11th-ranked Oklahoma Sooner who will travel to Bryant-Denny Stadium this week to take on Alabama as the Crimson Tide celebrate homecoming.
After surviving Auburn at home in overtime, two-loss Vanderbilt moved up two spots to No. 14.
“Playing an Auburn team that made a coaching change, having to take that to overtime, a win in overtime at home,” Rhoades said, noting there was a lot of conversation amongst the committee about the Commodores. “A lot of conversation about Diego Pavia, maybe the most important individual to their team as they go. The wins versus South Carolina, LSU, Missouri, really, really good wins.”
The only new team to move into the rankings this week was South Florida, coming in at No. 24. Rhoades said that, of the Group of Five teams, the Bulls have been the most consistent in the committee’s eyes.
In total, seven SEC teams are tanked as we head into the final weeks of the college football season.
