The Washington Commanders were thrilled that cornerback Trey Amos was still available when they were on the clock at No. 61 overall. They viewed him as one of the best defensive backs in this year’s draft class, so it was an easy decision for them to add him to their secondary.
Here are five plays from his 2024 season that show why the Commanders’ front office was so excited about him.
Amos makes a goal-line interception against South Carolina
Amos’ ability to read and anticipate routes immediately stands out when watching film on the cornerback, and it led to several game-changing plays for the Rebels.
One of the best examples came in Week 6 against South Carolina, which ended up being one of Amos’ best games in 2024. South Carolina was driving and knocking on the door of a touchdown at the 6-yard line when Amos spoiled all that.
After dropping back in coverage, Amos stopped in the middle of the end zone and noticed that quarterback LaNorris Sellers was targeting Dylan Stewart. Amos made a break for the ball and grabbed it just before Stewart could get his hands on it.
Amos finished the days with an 81.7 cover grade, which ranked as his second-best performance in 2024.
