The Houston Texans are turning back to Davis Mills.
Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans officially ruled out quarterback C.J. Stroud for Sunday’s contest against the Tennessee Titans, along with defensive back Jalen Pitre. Stroud was not present during the open session to the media on Wednesday or Thursday after he suffered a concussion in Week 9’s loss to the Denver Broncos during the second quarter. The third-year Pro Bowl passer also did not play in Week 10.

Ryans told reporters on Monday that Stroud was still in the league’s concussion protocol, along with offensive lineman Tytus Howard and defensive back Jalen Pitre. According to league ruling, Stroud must be symptom-free and go through two practices without symptoms before he can be cleared to return to game action.
If Stroud doesn’t return to practice on Thursday, he’ll already be ruled out before Friday’s walkthrough. For now, Mills should be in line to start in what hopes to be a win that gets the Texans back to .500 for the first time since Week 1.
Mills, who only threw for 137 yards in Week 9’s loss to the Broncos, was the catalyst in helping Houston engineer a 19-point comeback in the fourth quarter to beat the Jaguars, totaling three touchdowns, including the game-winning touchdown run with just over 30 seconds remaining.

Kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn also did not practice, meaning that Houston probably turns to Matthew Wright for a second week. He made his one field goal and one extra-point attempt against the Jaguars.
Kickoff from Nissan Stadium is scheduled for Noon CT. The game will be televised on CBS.
