The 2025 Texas high school state football playoffs began Thursday with a smattering of local games and continued with a bang Friday, highlighted by a dramatic bi-district matchup between two Central Texas powers: Westlake, which was a Class 6A Division I state finalist last season, and Vandegrift, the defending Class 6A Division II state champion.

The Vandegrift Vipers won it. By a foot. Literally.

A last-second field goal gave Vandegrift the 16-14 bi-district victory. Other winners Friday included Lake Travis, Hutto, Georgetown, Cedar Park, Pflugerville and Weiss. Dripping Springs and Liberty Hill were among Thursday’s opening winners. And the bi-district round concludes for Central Texas on Saturday with an Anderson vs. Friendswood tilt at House Park.

This was our thread throughout Friday night for updates, scores and analysis from around Central Texas’ first Friday night of the state playoffs.
