Friday Night Live was back for another week of Colorado high school football playoff action.

The Friday slate was highlighted by Class 2A No. 2 Wellington blasting a regional rival in the 2A quarterfinals and Fort Collins pushing reigning runner-up legend in the 5A playoffs.

Plus, No. 6 Roosevelt rolled and No. 12 Thompson Valley waged a classic at No. 5 Holy Family.

Here’s how all the CHSAA playoff action in the Fort Collins area and across Northern Colorado high school football played out on Friday night.

The local games were just a slice of the playoff action around Colorado high school football this weekend.

While there weren’t a ton of seed upsets, that means some titanic matchups incoming next week, especially in the upper classifications.

Wellington was so close to a title last year. The Eagles seem intent on fixing that in 2025.

The Lambkins would not go away for about 3.5 quarters in this one.

Legend opened up a 27-7 lead, but Fort Collins roared back with three straight Justin Cranford TD passes, two to Preston Mozer.

However, Brooks Goossen threw his 4th TD of the night (second to Kellen Marchand) and Ryken Banks added his second score on the ground as the Titans closed the visitors out.

FINAL: No. 4 Legend 42, No. 13 Fort Collins 28

The fourth-seeded Titans get No. 5 Valor Christian next in a 5A quarterfinal clash.

No. 13 Fort Collins finishes the season 9-3 (4-1 league), tying the most wins for the program since the 2014 season.

What a thriller in the 3A playoffs to knock out the defending champs!

Thompson Valley led 7-0, 14-7 and 21-14, but the Tigers came back every time, eventually forcing overtime.

After Holy Family scored first in overtime, they picked off Eagles quarterback Finley Lucas to seal an absolute playoff classic down in Broomfield.

The Tigers will face the winner of No. 4 Mead and No. 13 Lewis-Palmer in a 3A quarterfinal next week.

FINAL: No. 5 Holy Family 28, No. 12 Thompson Valley 21 (OT)

The No. 6 seed looked like a well-oiled machine, shutting out No. 11 Pueblo County and running away with a 47-0 win.

Five different Roughriders scored, including two TDs for Milo Pascual on the ground in the first half. Roosevelt also got a special teams score on a blocked punt and three touchdown passes.

Roosevelt will get the winner of No. 3 Palisade and No. 14 Timnath in the 3A quarterfinals.

This one was over, but the home team just wanted to make sure.

Another lengthy scoring drive resulted in a 13-yard touchdown run for Tre Trujillo to put the game firmly out of reach.

The Lambkins continue to stay within striking distance, answering Legend’s 3rd quarter score with one of their own.

Justin Cranford hit emerging sophomore tight end Donovan Dumas for a 21-yard touchdown pass that keeps Fort Collins close enough.

Wellington is leaving no doubt here, scoring again after a methodical march down the field.

Tanner Gray got a remarkable fourth TD tonight on another short QB run. The No. 2 seed is less than a quarter away from hosting a 2A semifinal for the second straight year.

The Titans may have finally broken this one wide open with the big play they’ve been looking for.

Brooks Goossen hit Freddie Burke deep for an 85-yard touchdown pass, giving Legend a three-score lead for the first time all game.

The No. 2 seed really turned the tide in this game going in and out of the locker room.

After scoring 1 second before halftime, the Eagles got a big Brayton Meglen kick return and needed just a 45-yard scoring drive that Tanner Gray finished off with a 20-yard TD run.

Another huge sequence in this game, as Wellington scored with under 1 second left after draining the final 6 minutes off the first-half clock.

Tanner Gray took it in on a fourth-down QB power from 1 yard out for a crucial score, especially since the Eagles get the ball first in the second half.

The Roughriders are running roughshod over the Hornets in this Class 3A playoff first-round game.

Milo Pascual exploded up the middle for a 24-yard touchdown scamper, his second score of the night. The home team added a late field goal to extend the lead.

The Titans are doing just about whatever they want on offense, now scoring on three straight possessions to open the game.

The latest Legend TD came on a 3-yard scoring plunge from Ryken Banks, a new CSU football recruit after being offered earlier this week.

This has been a hard-hitting game so far, as Thompson Valley jumped out to an early lead.

But the Tigers responded on a 36-yard passing dart from Kaden Hopkin to Nick Leopardi, tying the game up.

One thing you know about the visitors? This Fort Collins team doesn’t go away quietly.

The Lambkins put together an impressive scoring drive, capping it off with a 12-yard touchdown catch by Jack McKeon on a flats pass from Justin Cranford.

Res. Christian is back in this one after a scintillating drive that featured a 4th-down conversion scramble and some more QB magic from Jackson Lucas

He did it again a few plays later, connecting on a 13-yard touchdown pass to Jaxson Pszanka to get the Cougars back within one score (despite a missed extra point).

The Roughriders are looking strong out of the gates, jumping out to a multi-score lead on No. 11 Pueblo County.

No. 6 Roosevelt has put together two scoring drives in three possessions, getting touchdowns on a 3-yard Milo Pascual run and then Ryder Tymkowych’s 12-yard TD surge.

Helped by some trickeration, Legend is controlling the game against the Lambkins.

The Titans got a Freddie Burke fake-punt conversion for a first-down and then lulled the Lambkins to sleep with the run game again before Brooks Goossen found Kellen Marchand on a 38-yard TD strike.

The Eagles look like they’re out for revenge even though they won the first meeting between these teams.

Wellington got another defensive stop and, with the help of a muffed punt, scored again on Tanner Gray’s 5-yard TD run, his 5th touchdown in 3 playoff quarters of play.

Even without their normal starting QB, the Titans barely missed a beat with a 6-minute opening drive to go ahead early.

After a bunch of runs, Brooks Goossen hit Sean Guertin on a 25-yard touchdown pass.

Legend 7, Fort Collins 0; mid 1st quarter

A turning sequence early on here, as Wellington’s defense stops the Cougars offense on 4th down just past midfield.

Then, it only took five plays before Brayton Meglen found the endzone on a 21-yard touchdown scamper to give the Eagles a quick lead.

No. 4 Legend will be without a key player tonight vs. No. 13 Fort Collins.

Starting quarterback DJ Bordeaux is out against the Lambkins for this 5A second-round game, stemming from a disciplinary issue from the Titans’ final regular-season game.

It was going to be a longshot for Collins to win, but this could make it more plausible.

— Chris Abshire

We’re off and running way up north in Wellington.

The Cougars will get the ball first after Wellington won the toss and deferred until the 2nd half. We’ll see the Resurrection Christian offense first against a stout Eagles defense.

— Chris Abshire

The entire regular season is in the books and I’ve got a 64-8 record to date on these picks. Let’s keep it going in the playoffs!

Click the link below to see how I predict this week’s games playing out, including Wellington-Res. Christian, Windsor-Severance, Fort Collins-Legend and more.

— Chris Abshire

It’s been a dominant season for the Wizards, who finished 10-0 without a single team finishing within single digits.

That gave Windsor the top seed in Class 3A, meaning they’ll be home until a potential state-title game. And the 3A championship would be right in their backyard at CSU’s Canvas Stadium in Fort Collins.

The Windsor senior linebacker/defensive end took the Fort Collins-area honors after a 65-yard pick-six interception return TD helped secure an early momentum swing in a 42-6 win at Greeley Central.
