With kickoff fast approaching, we’re looking at who has the edge at each position.
Baltimore (4-5) travels to Cleveland to face the Browns (2-7) in an AFC North matchup that sees the rivals heading in opposite directions. Jim Harbaugh’s team has won three straight games and sits one game behind Pittsburgh for the division lead with two matchups looming.
Kevin Stefanski’s team has lost two games in a row and would have the No. 5 overall pick if the season ended today. Baltimore is 38-15 all-time against the Browns, with a 27-8 record under head coach John Harbaugh, which includes a 41-17 win in Week 2 this season. Under Harbaugh, the Ravens are 12-5 in Cleveland, where the Browns have won three of the past four meetings.
With kickoff fast approaching, we’re looking at who has the edge at each position.
QB: Ravens
There’s nothing to compare in this one. We have a rookie against the two-time MVP. In five career starts, third-round pick QB Dillon Gabriel has seven touchdown passes and two interceptions.
RB: Ravens
Judkins is tied for second among all NFL rookies with five rushing touchdowns and is first among all NFL rookies with 561 rushing yards. Henry (12,127) needs 117 rushing yards to surpass Pro Football Hall of Famer Marcus Allen (12,243) for 14th and 120 yards to surpass Hall of Famer Edgerrin James (12,246) for 13th on the NFL’s all-time rushing yards list.
WR: Ravens
Browns Jerry Jeudy earned his first career Pro Bowl nod in 2024. Jeudy joined the Browns via trade before the 2024 season. Zay Flowers leads Baltimore with 50 catches for 625 yards. Jeudy leads Cleveland with 28 catches for 335 yards.
TE: Even
Cleveland rookie tight end Third round pick TE Harold Fannin Jr. is leading the Browns with 42 receptions, the most by any Browns rookie in the first 10 weeks. He is third among all NFL rookies in receptions and fifth in receiving yards (396). David Njoku is 99 receiving yards away from the ninth-most career receiving yards by a Brown. He would pass Brian Brennan (4,148). Mark Andrews (5,774) needs four receiving yards to surpass Derrick Mason (5,777) for the franchise’s all-time receiving yards record. Isaiah Likely is a stud, and Charlie Kolar is solid.
OL: Ravens
Last week, G Joel Bitonio appeared in and started his 170th career game, the 11th most on the Browns’ career games played list. His 170 career starts are the most by a Brown since the team returned in 1999. Bitonio has been selected for seven career Pro Bowls. In the Ravens’ win over the Vikings, Roger Rosengarten gave up just one quarterback hurry and earned a 78.3 PFF pass-blocking grade. He gave up pressure on 6.9% of pass plays last season but is down to a 5.4% clip this year. Left guard Andrew Vorhees has failed to improve since last season, and according to PFF, has earned only a 55.4 pass-blocking grade, ranking 57th among 77 qualifying guards. Tyler Linderbaum’s 66.6 PFF overall grade in Week 10 led the Ravens’ offensive linemen. Cleveland’s offensive line allowed 17 pressures — including five sacks — on 44 dropbacks, logging a 75.0 PFF pass-blocking efficiency rating, which ranked third to last this week. Last week, Browns’ right guard Wyatt Teller surrendered four pressures, including one sack, against the Jets. He has allowed pressure on 6.4% of pass plays, which is the worst rate of his career. Joel Bitonio gave up just one quarterback hurry against the Jets and earned an 82.0 PFF pass-blocking grade, which ranked sixth among guards this week.
DL: Even
Cleveland’s first-round pick, DT Mason Graham, has recorded 20 tackles, half a sack, and helps anchor a defense that is second in the NFL in total defense. A Cleveland native, Dre’Mont Jones enjoyed a strong debut with the Ravens in Week 10 with four quarterback pressures and two hits in 39 defensive snaps.
Edge Rusher: Browns
Last week, DE Myles Garrett recorded two tackles for loss and one sack. He is leading the NFL with 17 tackles for loss and is tied for first with 11 sacks.
Linebacker: Even
Second-round pick LB Carson Schwesinger is leading the team with 69 tackles, while adding 1.5 sacks and one interception. He is leading all NFL rookies in tackles. Schwesinger is also the only NFL rookie to record at least 15 tackles, one interception, and one sack this season. Devin Bush has had at least five tackles in every game this season.
For Baltimore, Roquan Smith recorded six total tackles (three solo) and a pass defensed in Sunday’s 27-19 win over Minnesota. CB: Even
Cleveland’s Denzel Ward has recorded 26 tackles, one interception, and five passes defensed this season. The four-time Pro Bowler has 100 career passes defensed, the most by any player in the NFL since 2018. He is one of just three active players with 100 career passes defensed. Tyson Campbell joined the Browns via trade before Week 6. In fourgames with the Browns, he has recorded 17 tackles, one interception (returned for a touchdown), five passes defensed, and one forced fumble. He is third in the NFL this season with 11 passes defensed.
In Baltimore’s 27-19 victory over the Vikings on Sunday, Nate Wiggins recorded seven tackles, six of which were solo, along with one pass defense. Wiggins led the Ravens in tackles during the game, achieving this while participating in 64 of 65 defensive plays, which was 98.5 percent of the snaps. The second-year cornerback has made at least five tackles in four of his last five games, bringing his season total to 39 tackles (30 solo) and six pass defenses (including two interceptions) through nine regular-season contests.
Safety: Ravens
Trading for former Chargers safety Alohi Gilman has allowed the Ravens to put fewer true safety reps on Kyle Hamilton’s plate and let the 6-foot-4, 218-pound 2022 first-round draft choice to play his majority of snaps closer to the line of scrimmage, either as a nickel corner or in the box as a safety-linebacker hybrid as Baltimore tries to maximize Hamilton’s chess-piece abilities.
