HIRAM, Ohio — The Grove City College football team closed the 2025 regular season Saturday afternoon by rolling to a 63-14 victory at Hiram in Presidents’ Athletic Conference action at Charles A. Henry Field. The Wolverines (8-2, 7-1) finish the regular season with a seven-game winning streak.
The Grove City defense returned a pair of interceptions for touchdowns and recorded six sacks. The Wolverines also held Hiram to minus-5 rushing yards.
Offensively, Grove City amassed 518 total yards, with 270 coming through the air and 248 yards rushing.
Sophomore safety Mason Clouse gave Grove City a 28-0 lead in the second quarter by returning an interception 97 yards for a touchdown. That is the second-longest interception return in program history, trailing only Ross Trimmer’s 100-yard return at Bethany 21 years ago.
Junior safety Jase Herrick (Greenville High) closed the scoring with a 12-yard interception return in the fourth quarter.
Senior quarterback Ethan Wiley (Mercer High) completed 10 of 14 passes for 163 yards and two touchdowns. Freshman quarterback Mike Hollomon completed 9 of 16 attempts in the second half, good for 107 yards and a touchdown.
Junior running back Chase Rankin ran for 91 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries. Freshman running back Shepherd Miller picked up 66 yards and two touchdowns on seven carries while senior Ian Demeri added 45 yards on eight attempts.
Rankin gave Grove City a 7-0 lead 4:30 into the game when he scored on a 14-yard run. Wiley doubled the lead to 14-0 with 3:15 left in the first quarter by throwing a two-yard touchdown pass to junior wide receiver Daniel Sullivan.
Rankin’s 29-yard touchdown gave Grove City a 21-0 lead with 10:58 left in the half. Following Clouse’s runback, Wiley threw a nine-yard touchdown pass to junior wide receiver Sam Penna with 33 seconds left in the half to give the Wolverines a 35-0 halftime lead.
Miller ran for a pair of touchdown in the third quarter while Hollomon tossed a 22-yard touchdown pass to freshman wide receiver Cameron Epps with 13 minutes left in the fourth quarter.
Sullivan led Grove City with four catches for 73 yards. Sophomore Joe Gregiore had five catches for 38 yards. Junior Seth McGroerty caught three passes for 52 yards and Penna had three receptions for 38 yards.
Senior linebacker Jack Jollie recorded a team-leading nine tackles and 1.5 sacks. Jollie also forced a fumble. Senior linebacker Caleb Brubaker, junior defensive end Dave Cowher, freshman nose tackle Kellan Taylor and freshman linebacker Nick Clemens all had sacks.
Senior defensive end Jordan Karczewski added a half sack. Brubaker and senior linebacker Brock Belmont both had five tackles.
Saturday’s game marked Grove City’s first trip to Hiram since a 30-7 win in the 2002 season opener.
POSTSEASONGrove City College will make its third straight appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament as the Wolverines earned an at-large berth in the 40-team playoff draw.
Grove City (8-2) will visit Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) champion Hanover (Ind.) in the first round of the playoffs this Saturday at noon.
The Wolverines finished 7-1 in conference play, along with a 5-0 record on the road in the regular season.
Hanover (8-2) earned the HCAC’s automatic berth in the playoffs by winning the conference title. Hanover became one of the first teams in Division III to clinch a playoff spot when the Panthers downed Bluffton, 48-0, November 1 to clinch the league crown.
It is Hanover’s first conference title and playoff berth since 2019. The Panthers enter the postseason on an eight-game winning streak.
Last year, national semifinalist Johns Hopkins edged the visiting Wolverines in Baltimore, 17-14.
