Demercado’s injury leaves only two healthy running backs on the roster.

The Arizona Cardinals will likely be down another running back this week when they take on the Jacksonville Jaguars Sunday afternoon at State Farm Stadium. Running back Emari Demercado is expected to miss the game, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Per Schefter, tests revealed he has a high ankle sprain. Those typically tend to be multi-week injuries, sometimes taking four to six weeks to heal.

With him out, Bam Knight and Michael Carter are the only healthy running backs on the roster. They have Jermar Jefferson as well on the practice squad.

James Conner and Trey Benson are currently on injured reserve, but Conner is out for the rest of the season. Benson is eligible to return and perhaps will return to practice this week. We will find out soon if that is the case.

Demercado is a key special teams contributor and has been effective on offense. He has 241 rushing yards, averaging 7.8 yards per attempt, and has eight catches for 64 yards and a touchdown.
