Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Ke’Shawn Williams is in the concussion protocol and will have to clear it this week in order to play against the Chicago Bears.
Williams was hurt on the opening kickoff of the game.He was picked up and slammed into the ground. Williams went into the blue medical tent after the play and was checked by the independent neurologist before being led out of the tent without his helmet and into the locker room.
Calvin Austin III took over as the punt returner and cornerback D’Shawn Jamison was the kick returner with Williams down, though it is unknown who would replace Williams on returns with Jamison back on the practice squad.
Williams was signed to the active roster in October and has been the team’s return man since that moment. He muffed a punt against the Chargers, but kept the job despite that, as head coach Mike Tomlin has praised him multiple times.
He had four receptions for 86 yards and a touchdown across three games this preseason. Williams also shined as a gunner and punt returner, making him a versatile player the Steelers like.
In his one year with the Indiana Hoosiers, Williams caught 39 passes for 448 yards and two touchdowns. Williams’ best season was in 2022 with the Demon Deacons, as he amassed 553 receiving yards and one touchdown in his Sophomore campaign.
