Jaguars’ HC Liam Coen provided a brief injury update on Wednesday ahead of a Week 12 game vs. Arizona.
Before Wednesday’s practice, Jacksonville Jaguars’ head coach Liam Coen was asked about whether or not some key players would be able to return from injury this week.
This past Sunday against the LA Chargers, the Jaguars were without Brian Thomas Jr., Jourdan Lewis, Anton Harrison, and Hunter Long. Brenton Strange also continues to work his way back from a hip injury.
“Always optimistic, but I really don’t know,” Coen said. “You were optimistic on some of them last week and it didn’t end up working out. Obviously, it was frustrating for those guys specifically and for us when you’re trying to continue to get your guys out there, but I thought guys stepped up as well in their places.
“You look at operating again with two tight ends in a game and those two tight ends played their tails off. So it is definitely a next man up — it has to be a next man up mentality. Ultimately, hopefullly we get those guys back.”
Coen also mentioned that the team should know more about Greg Newsome “in the next day or so.” He exited Sunday’s game with an ankle injury. Christian Braswell took over at cornerback for him.
Harrison, Lewis, and Long were all ruled out of Sunday’s game last Friday. This was the first game that Harrison had missed while Long and Lewis have each missed the last two weeks.
Thomas Jr. was questionable before being ruled out before kickoff. He hasn’t played since Week 9 against the Las Vegas Raiders.
Without Lewis, Jarrian Jones has handled the slot cornerback snaps. In the two-plus games he has filled in, Jones has one interception and three pass breakups.
At right tackle for Harrison against LA was Cole Van Lanen. He was credited with allowing just one quarterback hurry in Sunday’s game.
Quintin Morris would play 50 snaps at tight end and Johnny Mundt would play 41.
At wideout, Parker Washington, Jakobi Meyers, and Tim Patrick were the top three on the team in snaps. The trio combined for 10 receptions for 104 yards and a touchdown.
The Jaguars’ first injury report of Week 12 will be released on Wednesday afternoon.
