Benson has been out since Week 4 with a knee injury. We will see if he can be activated to play against the Jaguars.
The Arizona Cardinals could get one of their key offensive players back in Week 12. The team announced that running back Trey Benson was designated to return from injured reserve and began practicing on Wednesday.
The move opens a 21-day window in which he can practice and must be activated during or at the conclusion of it or be reverted to injured reserve for the remainder of the season.
Benson has only played in four games this season. In those four games, he rushed for 160 yards on 5.5 yards per attempt. He also has 13 receptions for 64 yards. He injured his knee in Week 4.
Head coach Jonathan Gannon said they would take Benson’s return to the roster “day by day.” The team is looking for Benson to be “mentally and physically ready to go.”
A return this week against the Jacksonville Jaguars would be timely. Running back Emari Demercado suffered a high ankle sprain on Sunday in the Cardinals’ 41-22 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. He was ruled out for this weekend by Gannon on Wednesday.
Benson was listed as a limited participant on the first injury report of the week on Wednesday.
