The Vikings opened Week 12 with a walkthrough on Wednesday, and it delivered an unexpected development along the offensive line. Minnesota will practice outside throughout the week to prepare for Lambeau Field, but the biggest headline wasn’t the weather. It was a starting lineman appearing on the injury report for the first time this season.

Will Fries’ DNP Headlines Minnesota Vikings Injury Report; Updates on Ryan Kelly and Jonathan Greenard

The surprise of the day was right guard Will Fries, who was listed as Did Not Participate with an undisclosed injury. Fries had not been on the injury report at any point this year, making his sudden appearance the most notable shift heading into Thursday’s full practice.

There was also movement with outside linebacker Jonathan Greenard, who continues to work back from the shoulder injury he suffered in Week 10. Head Coach Kevin O’Connell said Greenard remains limited but is progressing.

“Jonathan Greenard will work off to the side today, and we’ll update you guys on where he’s at moving into tomorrow and Friday,” O’Connell said.

The most encouraging update came at center. Veteran Ryan Kelly was listed as a full participant, a major step forward after missing the past seven games in concussion protocol. The Vikings opened his 21-day evaluation window last week, and Kelly continues trending toward a possible return.

O’Connell emphasized how carefully the team has handled the process. Kelly’s return could help boost an offense ranked 25th in PFSN’s OFFi.

“We’ve sought outside resources as well. You’re just looking for green light after green light after green light,” he said.“We’ve taken a look at every layer of equipment. You’re probably going to see him wearing a Guardian Cap and a different helmet. You’re trying to eliminate the controllables.”

Kelly’s return could help boost an offense ranked 25th in PFSN’s OFFi.

Because Wednesday was a walkthrough, all participation levels were estimates. Minnesota will return to full practice Thursday and Friday before designating game statuses.
