CLEVELAND, Ohio — Sometimes the smallest changes yield the biggest results. For Jacksonville’s Trevor Lawrence, strapping a play-call wristband to his arm has proven to be that game-altering adjustment, transforming how the offense communicates, executes, and ultimately performs on game day.
On Wednesday, Lawrence broke down exactly how this seemingly minor equipment addition has revolutionized the Jaguars’ offensive operation.

“I think you look at the clean operation we had on offense. I don’t think it’s just because of that. There’s more moving parts, but I don’t think you can deny that that probably helped,” Lawrence said. “We played really clean, didn’t have any penalties, which is something that we’ve wanted to improve on all season long.”

“You can just get calls in faster really is all it is,” Lawrence revealed. “Instead of just, ‘hey re-span 10′, and then you go in there call it to the guys and get out of there, then you can you have usually five more seconds or so.”
Those five seconds might not sound like much to the average fan, but for a quarterback staring down NFL defenses designed specifically to confuse and pressure him, it’s an eternity. The streamlined communication process eliminates the need to repeat lengthy play calls multiple times, allowing the offense to break the huddle earlier and Lawrence to survey what’s happening across the line of scrimmage.

“And then now as you grow more and more in the system now using the wristband to kind of pick up our operation a little bit, and get a bit better look at the defense when we’re at the line of scrimmage, especially on third down and having some more time. That is obviously really important,” Lawrence emphasized.
The timing of this adjustment shows Lawrence’s growth within the offensive system. Earlier in the season, he needed to focus on visualizing plays as they came in. Now, with greater command of the offense, he can leverage the wristband to gain tactical advantages pre-snap.
