Jaguars’ DE Josh Hines-Allen shared how he “almost messed up” his record-breaking sack on Sunday.
In the Jacksonville Jaguars’ Week 11 win over the LA Chargers, defensive end Josh Hines-Allen set the franchise record for most sacks by a single player.
In the second quarter, with the Chargers facing a 3rd-and-10 from the Jacksonville 14-yard line, Hines-Allen sacked Herbert for a 14-yard loss.
Along with that being Hines-Allen’s 56th career sack, passing Tony Brackens, the previous record holder, who has 55 sacks, he also forced LA to settle for a field goal on that possession.
However, as Hines-Allen recalled in an interview with Kay Adams of the Up & Adams Show, that sack and play almost didn’t happen.
“I actually almost messed up,” Hines-Allen said of the play. “I thought we were about to run a game, and I was about to run and I looked inside and I realized who I was with, and I was like, why you moving around so much. And he looked at me like, ‘No, Josh. No.’ And at the last second I was like, oh I can’t do that. So then I just went speed to power.
“I’m still trying to figure out — like if you would have asked me right after how I sacked him, I thought I liked spinned around in a circle and tackled him with my other arm because my head was turned this way, my body was like going this way. So it was very — I’ve never had a sack like that, but what a way to break it. I’m still thinking about it to this day right now.”
Hines-Allen is now up to three sacks this season.  In 2024, Hines-Allen put together an eight-sack season, while in 2023, he had a career-best 17.5 sacks.
In Hines-Allen’s previous six NFL seasons, he’s reached the double-digit sack mark twice and has surpassed 7.0 sacks four times.
