FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — In a surprise turn of events, Atlanta Falcons defensive back Billy Bowman Jr. popped up on the team’s injury report Friday with an Achilles injury. He was ruled out by head coach Raheem Morris for Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints.
Morris said the injury occurred Friday morning during the team’s walk through and that the injury was “not good” in the moment. He didn’t have any more information beyond that on Bowman’s status as he continues to receive medical evaluations.
Dee Alford cleared concussion protocol so he is slated to start at nickel. Mike Hughes also returns to the starting lineup after missing the last two games with a neck injury.
Bowman joins players like receiver Drake London and defensive lineman Zach Harrison in the group officially ruled out of Sunday’s game. Both London and Harrison have knee injuries. London is considered “week-to-week” with a PCL sprain, whereas Morris said Harrison “will have to get it fixed,” referring to Harrison’s knee injury.
Meanwhile, offensive guards Chris Lindstrom and Matthew Bergeron were listed as questionable for Sunday’s game. Bergeron has missed the team’s last two games. And even though Lindstrom has been on the team’s injury report for weeks, he has suited up for every game this year, working through a foot injury on the fly.
Lkely the only good news the Falcons could really report Friday was that inside linebacker Divine Deablo was not given a game designation after another full day of participation. Deablo’s 21-day window to return to the active roster opened earlier this week and seeing as he was not given a designation it is likely only a matter of time until he is elevated to the active roster. He should be available to Atlanta in New Orleans once that move is made official.
