When was the last time the Washington Football Team was as desired as the Kansas City Chiefs?

The Commanders had not experienced a winning record since they were the Redskins in the consecutive seasons of 2015 (9-7) and 2016 (8-7-1). Those were not great seasons by any stretch, but hey, until last season’s 12-5 record, Washington had not even owned a winning record since Kirk Cousins, Jay Gruden and Sean McVay were running the Redskins’ offense.

Meanwhile, how about the Kansas City Chiefs?

The Chiefs had a disastrous 2012, fired Romeo Crennel, hired Andy Reid, and have been winning every season since. Even more, since Patrick Mahomes became the Chiefs’ starting quarterback in 2018, they have played in seven consecutive AFC Championship Games, five Super Bowls, and three of those Super Bowls.

But here we are with Wednesday’s schedule release: The NFL executives, front office authorities, and scheduling staff have determined to put the Washington Commanders out there in what they now call “standalone” games as many times as the Kansas City Chiefs.

You read that correctly. The Kansas City Chiefs and the Washington Commanders lead NFL teams with eight standalone games scheduled for the 2025 season.

Here are Washington’s eight standalone games scheduled for the 2025 season:

Week 2: At Packers, Thursday

Week 6: Home vs Bears, Monday

Week 9: Home vs Seahawks, Sunday

Week 11: Madrid vs Dolphins, Sunday

Week 13: Home vs Broncos, Sunday

Week 16: At Eagles, Saturday

Week 17: Home, vs Cowboys, Christmas

Who would have thought that following the disastrous 2023, 4-13 season (which included several lopsided losses), the NFL, in just two seasons, would actually want the Commanders as much as they wanted the Chiefs?
