On Friday, before the Indianapolis Colts take on the Kansas City Chiefs, the team had a pair of wide receivers in for a workout.

According to Jake Arthur, Cole Burgess and Jaylen Johnson were the tryout candidates.

Burgess went undrafted in 2024 out of Cortland State. There, the 6-0 – 192-pound wideout had a huge 2023 season, totaling 1,375 receiving yards with 16 touchdowns.

He has no regular-season NFL snaps at this point in his career.

Johnson, who is listed at 6-2 – 194 pounds, went undrafted in 2024 as well after playing collegiately at Eastern Carolina. During his final season, he caught 45 passes for 466 yards.

Like Burgess, Johnson hasn’t appeared in a regular-season game either.

Weekly workouts around the NFL are common. Colts‘ GM Chris Ballard is often churning the back end of the practice squad in search of new talent to develop.

In fact, the Colts made seven practice squad moves — four signings and three players released — earlier this week.

At this time, no signing has been reported.

At the moment, the Colts have two receivers on the practice squad in Coleman Owen and Eli Pancol, who was signed earlier this week.

Recently, Laquon Treadwell was signed from the practice squad to the Colts’ active roster.
